CFN Webinar: Pregnancy in Women with Cystic Fibrosis and Nutrition Considerations

The addition of highly effective CFTR modulator therapy (HEMT) has resulted not only in improved clinical outcomes, but also an unprecedented number of pregnancies in 2020 as well as people with cystic fibrosis wanting to plan for pregnancies in the future. This presentation will discuss the systemic effects of HEMT on fertility, pregnancy, and lactation in women with cystic fibrosis. A brief review on the guidelines for pregnancy and lactation for women cystic fibrosis will be done, with an eye on gaps in current knowledge in these guidelines. The presentation will close with a discussion of recent research results and upcoming clinical trials aiming to understand the outcomes of pregnant women with CF and their infants.

Speakers

Alexandra Wilson MS, RDN, CDE

Alexandra (Alix) Wilson, has over 10 years of experience in cystic fibrosis, working as the registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with the Adult CF Clinic of Colorado prior to making the transition into clinical research with the Adult CF Clinical Research Services team at National Jewish Health in Denver. Alix is an active member of the CF research and clinical quality improvement teams at her institution. She is the research coordinator representative on the TDN Women's Health Research Working Group (WHR-WG) and a member of the CFF and TDN Research Coordinator Advisory Group. She has participated as an apprentice in both the CF nutrition and RC mentor programs, as well been a Mentor for the nutrition mentor program. She has presented on nutrition, CF-related diabetes, and quality improvement at CF events. She also serves as the Colorado Delegate for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics House of Delegates. A firm believer in balance and integrity, she also completed yoga teacher training in 2021 with plans of becoming a certified yoga teacher.
